Recently, I've occupied myself with making goodies of some yarn and a crochet hook. Below you can see the results of my work.
I found this web site http://virkalitenkaka.blogspot.com/, and now I'm hooked! I immediately bought the two pattern books that's for sale on this web site as PDF's. Lots of goodies and lots of fun =)

Got this double cake plate as a Christmas gift from Anna, and now I'm tying to fill it with "home made" cup cakes, chocolate, cinnamon buns, fancy cakes and meringues.

Yes, 11 days from today it's Christmas Eve, 24th of December. That's the day that we share Christmas presents here in Sweden with our nearest and dearest. Perhaps Santa will show up. Who knows ;-)

Howsomever, I've all my gifts ready for that day, so now I'm going to write all the Christmas cards to send off to friends and family.

I like the Christmas time, not because of the gifts, but for all the decorations and lights that we put up in windows and so on. It lightens up and shines so beautiful, this dark time of the year. Advent stars, Christmas trees and so on.

My new car ;-)

The power steering on my old VW Polo from 2002 broke down some time ago and it took very long time to get it repaired.
While it was in the workshop we were looking at a new VW Polo, and to my own surprise, we ordered this new.
It’s indeed the same color as the old, but it doesn’t matter because I like this particular color.
Now we just have to get the old one sold. Two persons are already interested, so we'll see if any of them buy it. Keep my fingers crossed =)

New Camera and New Cell.

Sometimes you "need" to buy new things for your self, and lately I have needed to buy me a new camera and a new cell. Nothing showy, but however new. I don't need much to be satisfied.

The cell is a Nokia and has what I require from a cell. No more, no less. I don't want a toy, just something that is practical to phone with. The phone includes Internet, E-mail, camera and other modern things, so I am not totally a caveman (women).

The camera is a Nikon and has 14,0 Megapixels and shot movies in HD, so I am very pleased with my new tools.

My old cell has ended up in a drawer, and my two old small cameras I have given to my grandchildren. As you can see down under, they will have a lot of fun with them. Both Agnes and Tintin has already taken a lot of shots, and Agnes has figured out how to make movies. An uncostly enjoyment for a long time ahead, and perhaps a prospectively interest for taking pictures.

Yes I am enjoying my parasol from the seventies. Isn't it lovely? I am glad that I've been careful with it.

What a beautiful day we had that day for about a week ago. The sky was almost unclouded and we had about +30 degrees C directly in the sun. I had a wonderful afternoon in my lounger, reading a book.

Hopefully we will get that kind of weather this coming weekend too. Then Iwill finish the book under my bloomy parasol.

Well at last!

Bertil and I have had some kind of influenza. I think it was our grandchildren who “gave” it to us. I started and then I probably transferred it to Bertil.
Poor guy, he ended up at the infection clinic in Helsingborg for three days about two weeks ago. He had difficulties with his breathing and was really sick. He had got the flu and a mild pneumonia.
I have had a prolix coughing and also a stubborn sinusitis, and an aching tooth (probably the root canal). I went to three doctors and the third gave me – at last- antibiotics.
Yes I know, I shouldn’t take antibiotics more than necessary, but I know my self, and when the pain from my head gets unbearable it’s time for medicine!
I had used nasal spray with cortisone for nearly 14 days without any improvement, so it was time for stronger medical supplies.
Now we are getting better and better for each day, but this has been the worst cold we have had ever!
Further on I think we have to be more careful when we know the children or someone else for that matter, are sick in any way, or are having colds.
Bertil is getting more and more vulnerable for this kind of infections because of his illness and all the treatments he gets.
Well, the main thing is that we are getting better, and I’m really optimistic because the spring is on its way here in the northern parts of the world – AT LAST! We have had winter for six month, and for a short time I thought it would stay that way for ever and ever.
So, now I’m hoping for a long nice spring. That’s the time of the year that I like the most. Not to hot and not to cold, and everything is new and fresh in the nature. Mmmm!

Pain, cold and a nasty cough

Pain, cold and a nasty cough is what I have to put up with right now. Not surprising perhaps, since Agnes and Tintin have been very ill last week. Now they are on the mend (thankfully), but it was a bit dramatic last Tuesday when Tintin had a seizure due to a rapid temperature decrease. Hopefully, it was both the first and last time he should have to experience something like that. Both children and parents did see a doctor to get a helping hand. Agnes had a severe respiratory infection and had antibiotics. Tintin did not need any medicine.

Otherwise, life has been about as usual, except that my husband also has a cold and coughs a lot.
Today he was on his usual MRI screening on Ängelholm's hospital, which is made about every three months.
We will get the result from this screening next week, 6 April, when he's (we) going to Lund to visit his doctor at the neurological section.

It is equally unpleasant each time before we get to know what it looks like inside Bertil's head. It's a little more than three years now, since we got to know about his brain tumor, so he has made a several of these screenings by now. He had unfortunately one set-back about a year ago when the tumor started to grow again. Then he had to start with chemotherapy monthly for five days each time. Since then it hasn't change. So far so good! Knock on wood!

The weather is still cold here, but fortunately we haven't got more snow anyway. The sun is peeping through now and then, but not more than a day now and then.
As we use to say:
"He who waits for something good never waits too long".

Igår var jag och köpte en hel drös med tavellister på Rusta. Hade först svårt att bestämma mig för vilken färg det skulle vara på dem - svart, ek eller vita. Till sist blev det vita, och det tror jag nog blir ett bra val.
Nu är det ju bara frågan...Hur högt sätter man sådana här lister? Kan man få för många av dem kanske? Vad tror du om den saken?
Jag har tyvärr inga bilder ännu för de är inte uppsatta. Det lär nog dröja innan snickarn (mannen) vill utföra det uppdarget, han tycker nämligen att allt som jag vill ha/köper, och idéer som jag kommer på bara är 'MÖG' (alltså skit på ren svenska). Men jag har i alla fall bestämt att det ska vara två stycken rätt så långa i vardagsrummet på två olika väggar, en lång i sovrummet och dubbla rader på 'mitt' rum. Sen får vi väl se hur det kommer att se ut.
Att jag vill ha dubbla rader med lister på mitt rum är för att jag hade tänkt mig att ha tavlor på översta listen och foton på den undre.

Hittade en bild på Internet som illustrerar ungefär hur jag tänkt mig det hela. Jag får återkomma när allt är fix och färdigt med egna bilder.

Long Time

Well it’s been a long time since I updated my blog, but I'm still here =). I've had a lot to do with our move to our new apartment the 13th of January.

I thought that I’d cleared out all the things that we didn’t needed, but I just fooled my self. I’ve had a lot of work to make place for all our chattels, and I think that soon I’ll have everything in its right place.

A new sofa, a chest of drawers, a dinner table, some chairs and some other things has been purchased at the new IKEA department store in Helsingborg.

More snow is falling here in Skåne right now. It’s freezing cold outside and I’m really tired of this long and cold winter. It started already in the beginning of November and has its hold on us still. The other day we had about +3 degrees C, and it almost felt like it was spring in the air.
I'm longing for some green grass and spring flowers, but it seems like we have to wait for that for a long time yet.

The main thing anyhow is that we have come in place, our house got sold and I’m not longing for the house a bit. Honestly I haven’t given it a thought since we moved out. So I now we made the right thing when we decided to sell.

Bertil is still fighting with his brain tumor. Some days are worse then the others. Right now he’s going through the annual five days/month of treatment with anti tumor therapy. The first day of this treatment is often the worst, and then it sort of flattens out.

The day before yesterday he was really sick when he woke up in the morning, and when he went out for the morning paper he fell headlong down on the ground and strike up one of his knees. Today he has taken it easy all day long, and that’s good. He needs to slow down his life, but can’t really realize that.

There aren’t many of the persons we know and meet daily, who think that he really is as sick as he is because he looks very well. He has got the characteristic “moon-face” and a big belly from all the cortisone he has to take every day. In other words, he looks like he has a good life, eating with a good appetite, but instead he’s lost a lot of muscles that has transformed into fat on his belly instead. That’s a side effect from the cortisone too.

Besides of all this, life is good to us right now. We have a new home, nice people next door, and hopefully the spring will show up again with all its beautifulness.

My favourite month of the year is May.

Bored, bored, bored...

That sounded very negative, but that's how I feel right now. Every day seems to be the same at the moment.
Making breakfast, reading the morning paper, do the washing-up, make the beds, remind Bertil to take all his medicine, answer all his questions about the medicine, what they are good for, how do they work. (Same questions and answers every day). Why do I take this pill, and this one, and this one...
Same, same and same over and over again! On top of it all it has been snowing all day long today! I hate when the snow comes this early in the wintertime. Hopefully it will be gone until tomorrow morning because I haven't got the winter tyres on my car yet.

Bertil is in a new five days (cycle - 23 days without cytostatic and five whit) of cytostatic so he's not feeling 100% at the moment. He feels nauseous, dizzy and is tired early in the morning during these cycles, and sadly it seems that it gets worse and worse for every new cycle. Poor guy, and here I'm complaining of being bored. Sigh!
The thing is, I think, that I feel that life is running away from me. Hard to explain, but it fells like our lives are in a stage of waiting. Waiting for something that we don't know what it is. Well we do know that we are going to move to a new home after New Year, but what will come after that.
For how long is Bertil able to go on with his medication. Is there a limit, and if there is, when has he reached that limit?
Only time can give us the answer to all these questions, and this "time" that we do not know anything about, is corrosive for one's mental health. Nerve-wracking and close to impossible to take into your mind. It's plainly an unreal situation and feeling. Sometimes it feels like I'm "going in to the wall", and are not able to take any more.
Then a new day is breaking through, and that day comes and goes like the days before that, and so on, and so on...

50 Days

Until today we have been living in Mia's little cottage for 49 days, and it's 50 days today util we will move (hopefully - one never knows) to the new condo in Förslöv.
Bertil and I were checking out how far the builders had come yesterday, and down below you're able to see the difference in about one month. Perhaps not much but we were peeking inside the windows, and it's moving on there too.

Time to blog

At last I've some time to write a small note on my blog. The last two weeks has been very hectic for me, but now I’m able to sit down and exhale for a while. We have been moving and moving and moving…

This last Tuesday and Wednesday I was so tired that I hardly knew my own name. Thursday at 3 PM we handed over our house to the new owner. One could think that I should feel some kind of remorse, but I actually didn’t felt anything more than relief, and so did Bertil. I asked him what he felt and he said that he also was relieved.

So…now we have been living at 35 square meters since Monday night and that’s really ok (we moved on Monday afternoon so I then could clean the house properly).

The first night in my sisters little cottage I couldn’t sleep at all because my bed was too hard. The next morning I fixed up two thin mattresses from my sister, and since then I’ve slept like a princess. My bed looks a little bit like the bed in the fairytale “The Princess and the Pea”.

That's what it's doing in our house right now. The house is almost emptied. There's just the most nenecessary things left. We are leaving the kitchen table, some chairs and two couches for the new owner. We don't want them in our new home so there will be some new furnitures little by little. I want to have totally different furnitures from what we have had.
A new IKEA has opened in Helsingborg, so I think we will have a look there when the time comes for moving in to our new apartment sometimes in January, 2011.

This is how far they have come with "our" house. There's a roof anyway, but not much more at the moment ;-)

Bake an Apple Cake!

I felt like baking the other day, and it become an apple cake, which probably can be counted as LCHF.
It tasted quite good, but next time I make this cake I think I will try to rasp down the apples and mix all ingredients, except for the appples, together and take a little more honey in the mixture.

Apple Cake

2-3 apples

25 gram butter
2 deciliter (200 gram) grinded hazelnuts (or 1 dl coconut flakes and 1 dl grinded almonds)
1 egg
Cinnamon (at your leisure)
Liquid honey (at your leisure)

Grind the nuts into flour in a mixer. Add thin sliced apples in a greased fireproof baking tin. Sprinkle with cinnamon and drizzle with honey over. Melt the butter, whisk the egg, and mix with the hazelnut flour into a grainy substance. Put a thin layer over the apples. Put it into the oven at 200 degrees C for about 20 minutes until the cake is golden brown and a bit hard. Serve with whipped cream flavoured with a little vanilla aroma.

Quick Salted Cucumber (gherkins).

Approximately one kilograms Cucumber
12 cup (deciliterl) cold water
1 cup (deciliterl) salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar

The two ingredients below can be excluded:
3-4 dill crowns (I used dried dill)
4-5 currant leaves

Wash / brush clean cucumbers and "peck" them 3-4 times with a fork.
Add them down in a bowl with a lid that holds all the cucumbers.
Measure out the water and mix in salt and sugar.
Stir until sugar and salt are completely dissolved.
Dowse over the salt-sugar syrup over the cucumbers, and let everything rest for at least two days before eating them.

Now they are ready to be eaten.

Slice thinly and arrange on e.g. a liver pâté sandwich.
The cucumbers taste even good with a piece of meat.

The cucumbers will remain fresh for about two weeks in the fridge (if not eaten before then of course).

My Enemy # 1 at the moment

This time of the year is a really agonize for me, and especially for my eyes. They are itching and running from early morning to late evening. I'm taking eye dropps and other drugs but now is the time of the year that's the most irritating for me because of my grass allregy.

I'm allergic up on all kind of grass, so I can't escape from it. This is the time of the year that you want to be outside as much as possible, but I stay inside as much as possible. Buhu!

Well that's life. I love spring and autumn, so I try to be out a lot then instead.

My enemy # 1!

The Elder flowers is blooming right now. So get out and pick the flowers and make some good nice elder blossom juice. The juice is nice to mix in a cold drink. I use to mix about 1 liter of cold (home made) club soda with 1 deciliter elder blossom juice and then about 1-1½ dl Baccardi Rum. Of course you can exclude the rum if you just want something cold to drink in summer heat.

Elder flower juice
about 2 1 / 2 liters
Ingredients:
40 flower bunches
3 lemons
2 liters of boiling water
1 1/2 kg Sugar (a lot of sugar!!!).
50 g of citric acid

Rinse the flower bunches and place them on a towel to drain.
Place the flowers in a bucket or large bowl.
Wash the lemons thoroughly and slice them thinly.
Add lemon slices on the flowers.
Boil water and pour over the flowers and lemons.
Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves. Stir in the citric acid.
Cover the bucket/bowl and let stand for 3 days.
Strain!
Pour into well-cleaned bottles.

Store in refrigerator or freeze the juice. You can also add a cinnamon stick or 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger to get a taste of the juice extraction.

The Elder flowers can be replaced by lilac flowers or black currant leaves.

Kusinbarn - sysslingar

Sju stycken kusinbarn träffades den 21 maj hemma hos mormor Marie-Louise på hennes födelsedag. Det som var extra roligt den dagen, förutom mammas födelsedag, var att lilla Leah var med. Leah bor med sin mamma och pappa i Nya Zealand och är "hemma" i Sverige på besök.

Från vänster:
Ebba, Elvira, Felisia och lilla Allis i mormor Margaretas famn. Sedan har vi mina två små barnbarn Agnes och Tintin med mamma Anna i bakgrunden. Sist men inte minst mormor Mia med lilla Leah på höften.
Som syns på bilden så var det inte lätt att få alla telningar att titta åt mitt håll i några sekunder och inte heller kunde de vara stilla :)
Förutom de här sju kusinbarnen så finns det ytterligare 12 stycken kusinbarn som inte var med på träffen. De bor lite utspridda från Malmö i söder till Stockholm i norr, och de barnen som är med på bilden bor alla på Bjärehalvön, utom Leah då förstås.
Sammanlagt är vi 6 syskon som har 15 barn. De i sin tur har sammanlagt 19 barn (senast jag räknade) .

Here I am again! I haven’t had the right feeling lately to blog in English. Sorry! If you are wondering what I’m doing these days you are able to take a look here, it’s my “Swedish” blog.
If you don’t understand Swedish you are able to translate the blog with Google Translate. If you scroll down a bit you will find that tool to the right in the blog margin. It will not be perfect, but quite understandable…I think ;-)
The weather here in Skåne is cold (about +5-15oC), cloudy and rainy at the moment, so now I’m longing for the lovely sunny May warmth that use to be this time of the year. After a long, snow rich and cold winter like we have had this season, the longing is more apparent then usually.
The trees haven’t sprung out fully yet because of the cold, and everyone that I meet is complaining over the chill. I don’t like when it’s to hot, but about +20oC I’m prepared to accept =)

Finally, spring came anyway. It has been eagerly awaited this year. We have no warmth to speak of yet, but the sun is shining, and it gets warmer and warmer for each day. The leaves on the trees haven’t sprung out yet, but it’s just a matter of time now.

Blog drought!?

I've come up against some kind of "blog drought" lately =(.
A lot is happening but I've got some kind of writers cramp ( I think). Everything isn't suitable to write about, and my life seems a little bit samey right now.
We got our house sold - at last, and after that the air kind of went out of me. It has been like a big cloud hanging over us for over a year now, so it is perhaps not surprising that you feel that way.
We have the whole summer to pack and sort things out. The 1st of October is the date we have to leave the house, and sometimes in December (have no definit date) we are able to move in to our new apartment in Förslöv. In the mean time we are going to live in my sister's little cottage.
We are having a new and exciting time ahead of us. Feels strange to move to 73 sqm from 160 that we have now. Kind of compact living for us =)

The sinusitis is almost gone now, but I still need to use the steroid nasal spray twice a day. I'm not happy about that, but I rather take the spray then having sinusitis.

The snow is melting down day by day, but here's still plenty. The sun has showed up now and then too. The other day I washed my car. Haven't been able to do that since October last year!!!!!!! The temps has been below zero almost every day since then. I've always washed my cars "by hand". Only once I have used a car wash, but I didn't liked the result, so never again!

Now I'm longing for the spring, and these small lovely beatuties. Perhaps they are under the snow cover, who knows?

Headache, dizzy and nausea!

I've had headache, nausea and been dizzy for about a month now. Phoned my doctor yesterday but I don't think she took me seriously when I told her that I didn't felt good at all. I got an apointment the 15th of March!!!!

Today I had even more headache and it hurt behind my nose as well, so I went to emergency room at the medical center in Båstad this evening at 18.00. Fortunately they have open reception between 18.00 and 20.00.

There was a very nice doctor and I was advised to use steroid nasal spray for one week and then come back for a check out. It's just until 15 March so it suits me well.

Because I'm allergic to all kinds of grass, I fortunately already had such nasal spray at home =). I used it as soon as I came home (silly me that didn't tought about that spray before), and now I already feel much better. Well, you'd better not shout hello before it has gone a few days maybe more, before I can say that I'm ok again. The doctor thought that I have sinusitis, and that was what I also suspected this morning when I got such a pain behind my nose.

Well, I probably have to go to bed by now so I can sleep on it, and maybe I feel even better tomorrow.

What a difference a week can make!

There's about one week between these two pictures. The first one is from the 20th February and the second from today, the 28th. What a difference it can be in just one week! We have had plus degrees this last week, and as you can see, the snow has melted down heavily.

Now you are able to feel the spring in the air...at last! Today we had +17,5 degrees C in front of our house, but that was of course in the sun ;-). On the back of the house it was about +4,5.

Agnes, 5 years old, did this lovely drawing about a week ago on her mother's old slate. I've saved that slate through the years so if I got grandchildren they could be able to use it. Bertil made it for Anna and Peter about 30 years ago. Nice when old things will be used again. The slate has two sides, so two kids are able to draw at the same time =)

Third Time!

This lovely Amaryllis is blooming for the 3rd time. We got it from our friends Anna and Lennart in November last year when they where here visiting us.
First time there were two stalks with four flowers on each. Second time there were one stalk with four flowers, and this time there’s SIX flowers on one stalk.
Really amazing!

Cleaning

Today I've tried to clean up in all my cupboards and drawers. If we are able to sell our house sometimes in a near future, I want to have everything sorted and ready just to move.
I've been sorting, cleaning and chucked away a lot of empty paper boxes that I've saved. The boxes have housed some technical things like camera, photo scanner and so on. How silly of me to save things like that, but if you need to make a complaint after you have bought something you have to have the box.

On Monday I think I’ll clean out the Christmas. It’s hard to remove all the Christmas decorations, candle holders, tablecloths, goblins and all the other figures. I have to do it one of these days, so Monday it will be – if nothing else comes in my way.

Got this one in November from my friend Anna in Göteborg, and it's still blooming :)

This Mini Amaryllis I got from my friend Ingrid in Drared, and it's also still blooming. When I thought this one was overblown these two lovely flowers popped up :)

All the little birds are hungry and frozen in this cold winter weather.

Now I'm a bit tired of all this SNOW!!!

Yesterday it was Maria's 28th birthday.

Happy Birthday again ;-)

I didn't forgot Maria yesterday, I just forgot to tell the world that she had her birthday =))).

We celebrated Maria this last Sunday afternoon home at her place. She had made "Lussekatter" - Lucia cats - saffron buns and a lovely chocolate cake (Not the one on the picture, that one I've nicked someplace at the Internet).

Today the winter came to Skåne. There was no wind at all during the whole day, so all the snow on the tree limbs didn't fall off. It looked very lovely even if it was very, very dark and grey.

My Family

Today something took place that doesn’t happen so very often nowadays. Almost my whole family was meeting up at my mother’s place this afternoon. My oldest brother Christian wasn't participating.

My brother Anders has been visiting Skåne for some days now. He lives in Stockholm, so we are not seeing him and his family so very often. (We all live here at the Bjärehalvön in the southern parts of Sweden except for Anders).

He drove back to “the big city” after our meeting, so he’s hopefully safely back home by now.
Fortunately I had my little camera with me, and here’s the result (not the best shootings) of our little “family get-together" this afternoon.

Teeth

Had an appointment to my dentist today, and I always feel a bit nervous before I get to know if there’s any caries or something worth.
Last time, six month ago, I had to pull one tooth out because it was totally destroyed under the crown. Fortunately it was located farthest back in my mouth, but nevertheless, I get sad and frustrated when it goes like that.
That’s not what you want to do or hear when you are doing everything to keep your teeth and mouth clean and fresh.
Today he “only” had to repair a minor cavity. It only took seconds, so it must have been smaller then the smallest pin head.

Sune's 90th Birthday!

Sune is my father-in-law, and yesterday he had his 90th birthday. He had his anniversary celebration at restaurant Hovs Hallar.
We had a nice afternoon with good Christmas food, Swedish Christmas Smorgasbord, and all his relatives were gathered together.

Signe 86, and Sune 90.

If I get that old, I hope that I will be as bright in my brain and "young" in my body and mind as they are. Of course they both have their ailments. Sune's eye sight is bad, he's blind on one eye and Signe has some difficulties to walk because she's broken her legs a couple of times. Otherwise they are healthier than most people at their age.

Stormy Weather in Skåne!

This afternoon the weather changed rapidly. It has been raining almost the whole day, but in the afternoon it started to blow up, and now we are having a storm passing by.
At about 18.00 the electricity went down and was away for about 30 minutes. Poff, and it became dark as in a sack of coals.
I had to hunt out for a flashlight, and find some tea lights to light. For a minute it became a little bit spooky, but when the tea lights was shining it felt very cosy.
Now the electricity is back again, and all the candles are blown out. The storm is still blowing outside my window, so it’s nice to now that you don’t have to go outside.
Let’s hope for calm and sunny weather tomorrow.

I've been a bit shoddy the last week with a strange cold. Every other day I'm just fine and every other day I feel sick with pain behind my nose, headache, cough and a runny nose. it's not much only a bit difusely.
Sooo...I don't think I've the "swine flue" anyhow. But it's beginning to be a little bit irritating now.
I wash down my nose every day with my Nasaline, and that actually helps a lot, but I want to be 100% healthy again, because this is wearisomely now!

Visited my grandchildren some days ago and they always have some fun activities going on. Agnes loves to draw all sort of things, color in her many painting-books, cut, paste and pottering (scrapbooking).

Tintin has got hold of a small foot file. He must have seen how mom or dad are doing their feets, because he's doing it all right.

I haven't been feeling so very good the last eight days. My stomach has been "out of order" so to say. I had to be near the loo 24 hours a day, but now I'm feeling fine again. I have no idea what kind of "bug" I got, but it was a very long-drawn thing anyhow.

Autumn is here!

The autumn is really here now. Today it's raining here in the norten parts of Skåne. The temps are about +47° F (+8°C). The leaves are falling off the trees, but of coures not all at the same time.
I've been out and bundled them up more then once already. The last of the falling leaves I'll leave on the ground. They are good nourishment for the grass for next spring and summer season.

Yet an other funeral

Today I've been at a funeral…again. It was for an old friend, not close but anyhow a person, which we have known for about 30 years. Our kids went to Kindergarten and school together among other things.
I just wanted to show his wife and children my respect by showing up at the funeral. He must have been a very popular and dear person for many people, because there were about 125 persons in the church this afternoon, and there were flowers all over the church floor and also in many of the window recesses.
It was a very beautiful funeral with different speeches by the priest, some well known hymns and a couple of Swedish “dance band tracks” that G liked. Both the chanter and the women who sang the “tracks” are very talented, so it sounded very emotionally.
Religious is the least thing I am, so for me it’s bearable when it’s not to stiff and not to religious.

Hopefully the summer is staying for some time yet. I was in my mother-in-law's former garden yesterday and took some pictures. Unfortunately the new owner isn't interested in keeping the flowerbeds in order, but there are still some "goodies" left.

Junk Market

Yesterday our little village, Hov, had their annual Junk/flea market. This year it must have been more people than ever, (attendance record I think). Last year it was raining 'cats and dogs', but yesterday the weather was just perfect. There were 1100 visiters and the entry charge per person was 30 sek, and they also had to pay for parking their cars (don't know that sum, but think it was 10 sek). So that 44 000 sek + the income from the selling of 'the junk' became hopefully a nice sum for the little sports association, Hov's GIF.

Funeral

Monday at 2 pm Julius Hagander’s funeral took place at Hov’s church. The ceremony was very nice and Julius two sons held a very nice speech together that was, of course, about their father’s long and very rich life. The speech was held in English because many of the attendees weren’t from Sweden, but the rest of the ceremony was held in Swedish.
After the church ceremony we all were invited to the restaurant out at Hovs Hallar for a memorial treat.
Julius was a great man, and he will be missed by lots and lots of people all over our Globe.

Bertil and I went to the church before the ceremony started. In that way I could take some pictures of all the beautiful flowers without any annoying clicks from my camera during the act.

I also took a lot of pictures after we had been at the restaurant.

At that time the church-warden had taken out all the flowers and put them at and around the family grave.

NEVER EAT AT MC DONALDS AGAIN!!!!!!!

That was my first thought! Not that I'm a regular custumor at that place, but it happens now and then when Bertil wants to have a 'burger'. The thing is that he loves their French fries, and I just hate it. I use to eat a small Chicken burger when we go there, but NEVER AGAIN!

In this film from March 2008 a lady is showing a four years old Happy Meal. It is remarkable that the food not been aged in a natural way. It has instead more become mummified. The bread has not mould, just been hard. The cheese and meat is not rotten or mould. The meat is just shrunk slightly, while the cheese solidified. The French fries principle looked fresh. Unless it’s not smuggled to the truth in this film it gives you a thought about what fast food can contain. The film contains some advertising which we do not need to worry about.

Two Great Men

Today it would have been my Dad's 85th birthday. Me and my sisters went home to our Mom this afternoon and celebrated him with flowers and a small birthday cake.

We all miss him very much.

Today we also got to know that our dear old friend Julius Hagander had passed away this last night after a short time of disease. He was born in 1925.

Bertil has known Julius all his life, and I since I meet Bertil in 1967.

Julius was a very nice, charming and caring man. He always had a smile on his face and he also was a very generous person.

Mine and Bertil's thoughts goes to his whole family a sad day like this. Julius will be missed by a great number of friends.

These pictures (it's a collage) were taken in Julius garden the 30th of June, 2008. Bertil and I was served up with coffee and cakes by Julius, and we had a nice couple of hours together .

Take care of each other out there! You only live once, and you will never know when it's your time to say goodbye to this life that have been given to you on your day of birth.

Sunshine Pie á la Eva

Sunshine Pie, or You take what you have Pie =)

Filling:1 pack with bacon, about 140 gram
6-8 fresh mushrooms in small pieces (or 1 small tin in slices)
About 1½ dl parboiled broccoli in small bouquets
About 100 gram of Feta cheese in small squares
1 orange (plum) tomato in thin slices
½ leek in thin slices or ½ onion of optional type

Egg mixture:3 eggs
200 gram (2 dl) 34% Crème Fraiche
½ dl whip cream
Some salt and new grounded black pepper

Cut the bacon with a scissor or cut with a knife into small pieces.
Clean the mushrooms and cut into small pieces or slices.
Chop the leek or onion.
Put all these ingredients into a pie tin, and roast it for about 5-10 minutes while you mix up the egg mixture.
Put the rest of the ingredients, (broccoli, Feta cheese and tomato) into the tin and pour over the egg mixture.
Oven heat: 200°C (392°F) for about 30 minutes.
Serve with a salad and home made Rhode Island salad sauce/dressing.

Rhode Island salad sauce/dressing:200 gram (2 dl) 34% crème fraiche
3-4 tbsp real mayonnaise
3-4 tbsp tomato purée
salt and new grounded black pepper

Last Wednesday, 24th, Bertil and I got the great honour to join with our friend Erik on an air crossing in his small Cessna 172 from 1950. It was actually one really, really pleasant experience. I had fortunately my camera with me, and I took approximately 285 pictures and here is a small selection from them.

No Snow?

Only a lot of green grass!!!
I had my grandchildren here for some hours today. We had a very sunny and warm day here today, so we spent some of these hours outside in the garden =)
Both Tintin and Agnes got there eyes on the plastic sledges that I've stored in our conservatory so they wanted me to take them out so they could play with them.
Unfortunately Tintin thought that he could "drive" the sledge with the steering wheel, so he had a very hard work to get it back and forth on the law and tried to make me understand that I should drag him around at the lawn. Of course I understood what he meant and wanted, but I was the one who held in the camera so what could I do??? =))))
Unfortunately Tintin isn't talking a lot - yet, but with sign language he's getting very far ;-)
Agnes used her sledge as a rowboat, and she pretended that there were a lot of sharks in the water ;-)

Yes, yes! Now these lovely berries have there season here in Sweden. They have 8,3 g of carbohydrates/100 g, so I have to be careful with this kind of goodies. If you eat according the LCHF "diet" and want to lose weight, you shouldn't eat anything that's higher than 5 g carbohydrates/100 g food.

Here's a new utensil in my kitchen. It's a thermos coffee percolator with two cans included in the price, 299 SEK, about $39. A very good purchase ;-)

The Funny Little man (Gubben) is home with his creator (Anna) to be restored. He needs some new painting in his face. If I remembered it right, I think I told him that he would go on a long spa –and beauty vacation ;-)

Yippy!!
Now I've cleaned all the windows in our house. The 'creeps' in my body are gone and I’m just feeling sooo gooood. Some new curtains are hanged up, all dead spiders and other small insects and spider’s web are gone (into the vacuum cleaner).
So tomorrow I’m only going to “Roll my thumbs” – all day long ;-)

Cleaning Day

Today I've had a real cleaning day. The whole house (nearly) is shining from top to bottom. The only thing I've back to do is cleaning all the windows, and I hate to do that.
Some day, in a near future, I'll pull my self together and do that. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always liked to do the usual cleaning, but when it comes to the windows I think I'm allergic to clean them. I get "creeps" in my whole body.

I know why I'm so allergic to this window cleaning. The windows are old and I've to polish all four sides, and that's a time-consuming thing to do.
First I've to polish the inside, then I've to open and turn the window up side down, clean the outside, open again, clean between, close and turn it back again.
Now if I'm lucky, there will not be any water left inside the window, and that window is finished.
If I'm unlucky the water will stream from the upper part inside the window, and I've to open, turn, open, polish, close and turn again. Can you feel the "creeps" too?

New Things

Yesterday and today I’ve bought my self some late Birthday presents. Bertil never gives me any Birthday –or Christmas gifts so I buy them my self. It’s better that way, then I will get what I really want to have ;-)
Today I went to Ängelholm and bought a pair of sandals, and yesterday I bought a pair of Fit Over Sunglasses. I have incipient cataract, so I’ve to protect, cover and take care of my eyes when I’m in the sun. I think these Polaroid Sunglasses are a very good investment. Perhaps they look a little bit big, but so what! The main thing is that sun doesn’t reach my eyes.
Actually it was my “big” sister Margareta that first had bought a pair of Fit Over’s, so I copied her.

Junk Food!

I went to Ängelhom with Anna and the children yesterday to fetch up their car that had been on service. As every other child Agnes and Tintin want to eat at Mc Donald's. Don't know why, because when they have got what they have asked for, what ever it could be - Happy Meal, Milkshake, icecream..., they just eat a small amount of the 'food'. Improvement (?)

It's very hot and dry in our ablong country these days. This was the temperatures in front of our house yesterday afternoon. It has been like this for weeks now. Do we have our summer already, or what? They have forcasted rain on Sunday, so let's hope that will do up for some days anyhow.

Today I've oiled our garden chairs (12 items) and this new Garden furniture that I bought at IKEA the day before yesterday.
What do you think about my little arraignment? Some improvement from before I hope. It doesn't look as empty as before in my eyes anyhow.

I'm glad that IKEA exist =)

...our Peter passed away from us, but it feels like it was only yesterday.

Bertil and I went out for a short drive with the car tonight (24th) and for once I remembered to take my BIG camera with me. The sunset was so beautiful, and the sun was all pink, not orange as it uses to be, and it went down very fast. It’s only five minutes between the first and the last picture.

I saw this lovely pheasant out through my window late this afternoon. He was standing on top of the little hill and looked so proud and majestic, but before I got my camera out of the bag and in order (change camera lens) he already had started to run away. Buhu!!!!
I went out to see if I could find him someplace out there, and this was what I got into my camera. A little rabbit was also lying out on the field, but he got scared and run away too.

Fixing in my garden

Yesterday I was fixing out in my so called garden. Even though I don’t have a lot of flower beds I want to have order in the garden, so I had a “spring cleaning” the whole afternoon.
I planted some more flowers in my pots, raked leafs and fixed some edges on the lawn and so forth.
I’m in fact very pleased with my self and my work, if I may say so ;-)
Down below you are able to see the result of my “hard work”=)

The grass has become very green even though it's very dry.

The roof on the extension at the backside of our house has not yet been repaired. =/ =(

It should have been done for about two years now, but every time it would have been done something else has always come in the way.

Bad weather, Bertil's illness and so on. Hopefully we will get it done this spring!!!!!!

Hopefully this will be a big Lavender bush some day ;-)

The Kitchen ceiling lamp became a Soda Streamer!

I wanted a new lamp in my kitchen, so said and done; I went to the electrical shop and bought a nice green lamp that I liked. When I came home I unpacked the lamp, and took down the old one, but when I looked closer I saw a scratch in the varnish. Just a small one, but if you pay 500 sek for something you want it to be faultless. I do anyhow.
Bertil went back to the shop to get a new lamp, but they didn’t have anyone at home, so we had to wait a week for a new one.
After a week we got the new lamp, and we unpacked this one too, and it was the same thing with this one. We went back to the store once again (fortunately the shop isn’t very far from here), and this time I decided that we should look at the lamp before we took it home. The only thing was that they didn’t have any green lamps left, not even back in the store room.
They had one green lamp hanging in the store, but it was the same thing with this one.
Sigh!!!! (Suck).
They had other colors on these lamps, red, black and white, and there were no scratches on these. Very strange (?). Sigh – again! I didn’t want any red, black or white lamp – I WANTED A GREEEEN ONE!!!!
We (Bertil, I and the man in the store) came to the conclusion that the machine that stamped out the lamps must have had some kind of imperfection when it made the green lamps. =((((((
In this situation I gave up my desire for a new kitchen ceiling lamp and bought us a Soda Streamer instead, whom we will have a lot of delightedness from.
I’ve put the thought of a new lamp “on the shelf”, for now anyhow.

This day didn’t become as I thought it would. A couple of days ago I felt that a jacket crown at a back tooth in the left upper jaw was loose, so I phoned my dentist and got an appointment today at 9.00 am. At home it felt like the tooth would fall out at any second, but alas how wrong I was.
The dentist had to carry out a lot of strength to get it out, and if that wasn’t enough, what was left of my real tooth was a total disaster.
“Sorry, but I have to pull out the whole tooth”, he said. My answer, with all that things you have in your mouth when you’re at the dentist, was: “Mmhh!?”
I wasn’t prepared for this at all, so my pulse probably went up to a very high level, my hands became damped with sweat and a lot of thoughts twizzled around in my head. Suddenly I felt very feeble.
“Shall we pull it out today or do you want to do it another day”, he asked. “Do it today”, I said. There’s nothing to wait for even though I was terrified to death. I didn’t want to pass through this feeling once again another day further on.
The anaesthesia was rapidly done, and now the real work had begun. The dentist had a real battle to fight with that one I can tell you, but after about three quarters, a lot of drilling, cutting in my gum, sewing and a little bit irritation at the dentist nurse my dentist finished his work. He’s a very competent man, so I didn’t felt any pain at all, but after some hours half my head was aching like h…!!! Two pain killers and I felt as “new” again.
When something like this happens, I feel like I’m in some kind of total ageing break down. I’m only (soon) 58. Hopefully I’ve many years left of my life, so I do not want to pull out any teeth at all actually. Buhuuuu!!!

I think I have to take a couple of painkillers again before I go to bed tonight =(

Garden pottering - Trädgårdspyssel

Yesterday we had a lovely warm day here in the southern parts of Sweden. The sun was shining the whole day and the temps was up to 18.6°C (65.48°F) at the backside of our house (north), and in the front (south) the thermometer showed 26.7°C (80.06°).
I’m far from any gardener, but when the weather suddenly become like this my ‘green thumbs (fingers)’ are looking forward to rout around in the soil.
I’d bought some small plants the day before when I visited Anna at her work – Bäckdalens Handelsträdgård. Below you are able to see my attempt to make something out of the plants and my pots.
I also took out my small friends, ‘The Dog’ and ‘The Worm’. ‘The Little Funny Man’ was hiding amongst the Common Ivy as usually, so I had to clear a little bit in front of him before I could see him nicely again.
Bertil was also out gardening. He cut down some small trees, and had a lot of work to pick up and transport away the branches.
I also cleaned and scrubbed the little sandbox we have for Agnes and Tintin. So now they are welcome dig around in the sand =)

I think that my pictures from today is a verification of that the spring perhaps is on its way. At last!!!!

A bunch of lovely Snowdrops...

There have never been any Ostriches, only sheep and horses =))))

This is how the croplands looked here this afternoon. The sun had warmed up the soil during the morning, and on the afternoon the damp was rising very heavy.

Got this recipe from my dear friend Lena some weeks ago. I modified the recipe a little bit so it fitted my taste.

Pork Tenderloin or Chicken stew.
4 pers.

1 pork tenderloin or 4-5 chicken filet
140-280 gram bacon (about 16 slices)
1-2 yellow pepper
300 gram fresh sliced mushrooms
3 deciliter whipping cream
1 jar cream cheese (anyone that you like)
2 bouillon cubes or 2-3 tbsp calf liquid meat extract
salt pepper

Fry the fillets and place them in ovenware. Fry the bacon with the yellow pepper and mushrooms. Pour in cream, cheese, bouillon and let it boil together. Dilute contingently with water. Pour the sauce over the meat and let it slimmer in the oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 20 minutes until the meat is ready.
Serve some boiled vegetables to this dish, e.g. Haricots verts, Broccoli or Cauliflower.

Fläskfilé eller kycklinggryta.

4 pers.

1 fläskfilé eller 4-5 kycklingfiléer
1-2 pkt bacon
1-2 gul paprika
Lite färska skivade champinjoner
3 dl vispgrädde
1 burk mjukost (vilken som helst som du gillar)
2 buljongtärningar eller 2-3 msk kalvfond
salt och peppar

Bryn filé och lägg i en form. Stek bacon med paprika och svamp. Häll på grädde, ost, buljong och låt det koka ihop. Späd ev. med vatten.
Häll såsen över köttet och låt det puttra i ugnen på 200° i ca 20 minuter tills köttet är klart.
Servera någon kokt grönsak till, t ex haricots verts, broccoli eller blomkål.

Common Cranes on a short visit on their way upp to Hornborgasjön in Västergötland- Lake Hornborga.

Every year the Cranes are visiting the same cropland just outside our house. They stay for about two days, and then they are on "the move" again. This year they were here the 16th and 17th of March.
